PRESENT PERFECT WITH SINCE AND FOR

When we use since or for in Present Perfect?

We use since/for ONLY when we talk about a specified time: when at the beginning the time is said, and it is focus on duration.

It is used when the specific time about an event started.


USE SINCE WHEN YOU TALK ABOUT

  • year (1900, 2009)
  • season
  • day of the week
  • month
  • last + week, month or year

 

Example

  • Since this morning
  • Since last week
  • Since yesterday

It is used for the length of time since something started.

 

USE FOR WHEN YOU TALK ABOUT 

  • a day
  • week

  • month
  • year numbers (2,3,5,10…)

  • for three years
  • for a week
  • for a month
  • for hours
